Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does the money transfer process work? After we collect the money, we either send it directly to the recipient's PayPal or GoFundMe (depending on what works best for them), or send it to someone who can transfer to the recipient's bank account in Palestine for us.For us, PayPal is the fastest way to reach someone in Gaza, but not everyone has PayPal. GoFundMe is slow and has a number of hoops to jump through. Bank transfers are directly received, but can take up to a week and are subject to transfer/withdrawal fees. Our intermediaries all have a track record of being timely and trustworthy with their money transfers. We have not had any issues with our previous campaigns.

Q. What happens if we don't meet a campaign goal? When the beneficiary requests it, we transfer any available money via the method that works best for them.Any amount of money is meaningful under these circumstances. It can buy food, water, electric charging for phones, medicine, and shelter. Even if we don't meet the goal, the money can always be used for something else.We always update our campaigns with information on how the money was used.

Q. How do I know the beneficiary will really use the money as I expect? We always provide proof of donation to the best of our ability, and our beneficiaries are usually happy to provide photos and extra information to prove that the money was used well. You are more than welcome to speak to the beneficiaries yourself. However, keep in mind that this is an extreme situation where circumstances change quickly. Sometimes, money that was meant for evacuation or shelter gets spent on more immediate needs such as food or medicine. Other times, our beneficiaries choose to save any extra money they receive for evacuation. No matter what, though, the money donated is not wasted. Please be confident of that.

Q. I'd like to add my initiative to your list.Since this is an informal and personally run network of initiatives, at the moment, we are closed to anyone besides friends and acquaintances.

Q. Is there any way for me to contribute?Aside from reposting our campaigns and donating? If you know any of us personally or through a friend, please feel free to reach out and let us know that you want to help!Otherwise, if you have experience with organizing charity, we'd love to talk to you. Reach out to @cygnettes with your experience and references and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
